Bridging the gap

What's the difference between the slashes?

This is the forward slash "/".  Used for web addresses or writing the date, 12/25/2015. It is called the forward slash, because from left-to-right it appears to fall forward.

This is the back-slash "\".  Used for user ID and domain separation or writing out mapped drive information (e.g. "tvsd\jdoe" or "\\server\folder").  It called the back-slash because from left-to-right it appears to fall backward.  Another nifty way to remember this essential key, is that it can be found beneath the backspace key!
